Women's Basketball Hallway Mural #1
The Beginning of the Dynasty.
Before the championships, before the banners, before UConn became the standard in women’s college basketball, there was the beginning.
Located in the hallway outside the women’s locker room at Gampel Pavilion, this mural tells the story of the UConn Women’s Basketball dynasty through the players and moments that built it. At its heart is the program’s breakthrough 1995 NCAA Championship, represented by UConn legend Rebecca Lobo (#50), alongside generations of players who carried that legacy forward.
Sue Bird (#10), Jennifer Rizzotti, Swin Cash, Tina Charles, Maya Moore, and countless other Husky greats appear throughout the mural, creating a visual timeline of a program that became a national powerhouse.
Championship celebrations, game-winning moments, fierce competition, teammates embracing, and trophies raised are woven together across the piece. Rather than capturing one season or one championship, the mural captures something much bigger: the evolution of a dynasty.
And its location made that message even more powerful.
Positioned directly outside the women’s locker room, this mural greeted UConn players every time they walked in and out — a daily reminder of the players who came before them, the championships they had won, and the standard they were expected to uphold.
This is more than a mural. It is a visual history of the beginning, growth, and dominance of the UConn Women’s Basketball dynasty.
